A Message to WA 8th Graders #1 & A Message to WA 8th Graders #2

Two YouTube Videos created by Ready Washington, which is an organization made up of other local entities to support college and career learning. These two videos feature two middle school principals, one in Monroe School District and one in North Thurston Public Schools. These two administrators talk about how important career exploration is in 8th grade and that “your dreams are still in play!” Both videos are around two minutes each. 

 

College Bound Scholarship

Are you interested in health care? Construction? Video game design? Running a business? Whatever your career goals, the College Bound Scholarship will help you attend and pay for the school that is right for you! College Bound is an early commitment of state financial aid to eligible students who sign up in middle school and fulfill the College Bound pledge. The College Bound Scholarship covers average tuition, fees, and a book allowance at over 60 colleges, universities, and technical schools in Washington. Washington Career Bridge-Career Exploration

Washington Career Bridge was created by the state of Washington's Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board to help students research careers, view job trends, and find education pathways, all in the state of Washington! At this link, you can take the Career Exploration quiz to find out which career area fits your interests and what you like to do, and then discover information about the careers that you are most interested in. 

 

CareerOneStop-GetMyFuture Career Exploration 

CareerOneStop GetMyFuture is a website sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor that is offers career exploration, information on completing high school, exploring job training and colleges, and so much more! GetMyFuture is exclusively focused on youth and young adults with an easy-to-use format. GetMyFuture’s data is based on nation-wide trends rather than state-specific trends. 

 

Career Connect @ Home

Looking for additional career-focused content for you or your students at home? CareerConnect@Home is designed to help Washington students learn about Washington careers and industries. This ongoing event started on May 4, and continuing each day through June 12 at 3:30pm, students can join employers in live discussions about jobs and career pathways in our state. Career Family Tree Activity

This worksheet, created by the Family Career & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), gives you the opportunity to create your own Career Family Tree! It's fun to think about how family members' career choices have influenced their lives-and it may help you identify things you want and don't want in a career. On this worksheet, you can find out more about your family and reflect on what you have learned. 

 

Dr. Kit Career Videos

This website was created by a psychology professor and covers topics ranging from success in parenting, success in work, and success in school. He has also interviewed industry professionals and filmed informational videos for almost 400 CAREERS! The careers that are listed range from Executive Chef to Video Game Designer to Balloon Artist to Aviation Mechanic, and everything else in-between! If you are looking to find careers that you may not have heard of before, this is the place to go!  

 

Virtual College Fair Presentations

Gotocollegefairs.com is an organization that hosts free college fairs in different cities with colleges and universities from across the country.. Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, they created virtual presentations that everyone can watch! The videos are primarily targeted towards a high school aged audiences. But, there are plenty of presentations that include vital information for middle and high school aged students, including Career and Technical Education sessions and earning college credit in high school with Advanced Placement courses and programs like Running Start! *Note-Registration is required to view the presentations, but registration is free*

 

Virtual College Tours

YouVisit is a website designed to give you virtual college tours for 600+ schools across the country! This website gives the virtual format of a 360 degree experience or virtual reality. While nothing can replace the physical, in-person visit, this website is a great resource for seeing campuses near us and across the country!
