Customize Student Chromebook Settings Now for Summer

As the school year wraps up, we want to let families know that students completing grades 6-7 and 9-11 will keep their district-issued Chromebooks over Summer Break. We do not collect devices at the end of the year for students who are continuing at their current school.

If you plan to allow your child to use their Chromebook this summer, now is a great time to review and customize your settings in the Lightspeed Parent Portal. The district's content filter remains active on the device year-round, so sites blocked during the school year will remain blocked over the summer. But the Parent Portal gives you additional tools to tailor device use to your family's needs and routines.

Here's what you can do in the portal:

View Web Activity

See a detailed browsing history for the past seven days, so you have a clear picture of how your child is using the device outside of school.

Customize what sites can be accessed on the Chromebook away from school. A few things to know:

  • "Pause web browsing" will block all internet activity, including access to Google Drive, Google Docs, and district curriculum resources. This is best used when you don't want your child on the device at all, or during times when they shouldn't be studying.

  • "Reset web rules" returns the device to the district's default settings, which you can then adjust from there.

  • The custom domain blocking feature is available but has produced mixed results for some families, so use it with that in mind.

Create Schedules

Set specific times when web access is on or off, any day of the week, to fit your family's summer routine.
